Upcoming Activities:
- September 8 - 12, 2008 - Maintenance in Tennessee River Gorge Segment, Hamilton County - Join an AmeriCorps NCCC team for trail maintenance in this segment. Maintenance to be performed is replacing wooden steps, repairing bridges and wooden walk-ways, repairing trail tread, removing fallen trees, and blazing. NCCC team will be lodged at Pot Point House near Signal Mountain, TN and a very limited space is available for out of town volunteers, RSVP is required and on a first come bases. The work day in the field will be 8am - 4:30pm EST.
- September 14 - 20, 2008 - BRAT, Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee - The 2008 BRAT will begin in upper east Tennessee at Warriors Path State Park. The terrain on the route will vary greatly each day. There will be hills, mountains and even some flat terrain. This years BRAT will be more Mountainous than the past years. Long graded climbs will abound. Expect beautiful rural Tennessee scenery and back roads, a promise the BRAT keeps every year!
Tennessee State Parks, Tennessee Department of Transportation, and the TTA/CTC sponsor the Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee. A portion of proceeds from the event will go to TTA/CTC to support maintenance and completion of the Cumberland Trail. - September 15 - October 2, 2008 - Phase 1 Bridge Building in the Possum and Rock Creek Gorges, Hamilton County - Join an AmeriCorps NCCC team and volunteers for bridge building in the Possum and Rock Creek Gorges. Volunteers are needed to pack in the bridge components, materials for bridge footings, scaffolding, and the tools needed for construction. Volunteers will also participate in bridge construction. Food and lodging will be provided at the Lutheran Camp located in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. Space is limited at the camp and RSVP is required. The work day in the field will be 8am - 4:30pm EST.
- September 27, 2008 - National Public Lands Day on Black Mountain, Cumberland County - The TTA/CTC has teamed-up with supporter Earl Duff Subaru and supporter radio station 105.7 fm for Rocking on the Mountain. A hike will be lead by TTA/CTC volunteers down the western slope of Black Mountain. Please call (866) 687-6272 for event details.
- October 1 - 4, 2008 - 8th Annual Stump Jump, Tennessee River Gorge Segment, Hamilton County - Annual trail running event on the Cumberland Trail hosted by Rock Creek Outfitters. TTA/CTC supporter Rock Creek Outfitters hosts this annual event to raise money for the Cumberland Trail Conference (CTC) for the completion and maintenance of the CT. Please visit Rock Creek Outfitters store in Chattanooga, Tennessee or Rock Creek Stump Jump Online for more information about this awesome event. Online registration is now open! On October 1 & 2, there will be trail maintenance on the race route, October 3 vendor fair, and October 4 race. Please contact the TTA/CTC for more information about volunteering for trail maintenance.

- October 9 - 16, 2008 - College Week Bridgebuilding in the Soddy, Possum, and Rock Creek Gorges, Hamilton County - Join Tennessee college and university students on their fall break helping to support the RPS bridge building program. Volunteers are needed to pack in the bridge components, materials for bridge footings, scaffolding, and the tools needed for construction. Volunteers will also participate in bridge construction. Food and lodging will be provided at the Lutheran Camp located in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. Space is limited at the camp and RSVP is required. The work day in the field will be 8am-4:30pm EST.
- October 14 - 17, 2008 - TN State Natural Areas Conference, Nashville, TN - Please visit
www.naturalarea.org/08CONFERENCE for more information. TTA/CTC will have a booth.
- October 24 - 26, 2008 - Annual TTA Statewide Meeting, Liberty, TN - Once each year, TTA members from all across Tennessee gather for a weekend of fun, food, and fellowship. In addition to the hikes offered each day, there will be entertainment, chapter exhibits, a silent and live auction, and our Annual Meeting where we will vote in a Board of Officers, hear about TTA’s developments, and present several awards recognizing people/businesses for their outstanding contributions to the furtherance of TTA’s missions and goals. All proceeds from auctions, white elephant,and bake sale items will help fund the Cumberland Trail Conference 2009 Spring BreakAway program in March. Last year $6100 was raised to support the Cumberland Trail.
This year's event will be held at the Indian Creek Youth Camp in Liberty, Tennessee; very close to Edgar Evans State Park. Good fellowship, great hikes, beautiful lakeside setting, stimulating and entertaining programs, tasty meals, and an opportunity to support the Cumberland Trail – what more could you want??? Task to complete are construction of a kiosks, installing wooden steps, and repairing trail tread. Free camping is available at nearby Newby Branch campground.
- December 13 - 14, 2008 - Maintenance in Stinging Fork Segment, Rhea County - Join CTC staff and State personnel for trail maintenance in this State Natural Area near Spring City, Tennessee. Task to complete are construction of a kiosks, installing wooden steps, and repairing trail tread. Free camping is available at nearby Newby Branch campground.
