Trail Master Certification and Mechanized Trail Building Courses
This fall volunteers can learn the fine points of trail design and construction from an internationally recognized authority in the field. Mike Riter of Trail Design Specialists will offer his Trail Master Certification course at the Cumberland Trail State Park’s Head of Sequatchie unit, September 18-21. That course will be followed by a two-day mechanized trail building workshop, September 22-23.
The CTC is proud to offer this course with the generous support of a grant from the Recreation Trails Program, a federally funded and state-administered program. This opportunity allows the CTC to offer a total of six workshops, two of which recently concluded with CTC staff and volunteers and state parks rangers achieving certification in both trail design and building, and in mechanized trail building methods.
September workshops are open to volunteers and state parks personnel who want to understand the rationale behind the trail building techniques, and the fundamentals of sustainable trail design.
Participants can gain certification, confidence, and experience from the workshop that will enable them to lead volunteer crews in settings such as CTC BreakAway and trail building projects in state and municipal parks. Attendance for the Trail Master Certification course is limited to 16 people; and Mechanized Trail Building slots are open for six individuals. Several slots have already been filled. The cost for each course is $200.
Accommodations are available, breakfast and lunch included.
Two more Trail Master Certification workshops will be offered in 2018; those dates will be announced as soon as details are complete.
