BreakAway this year was a five week program from February 22 to March 28. During this period, 222 students and 41 Cumberland Trail Conference (CTC) volunteers donated 8,615 hours to the Cumberland Trail project.

Students from Butler College in Indiana participated in Alternative Spring Break on the Cumberland TraButler College 2009il for several years.  Here they hike into the work site over freshly built trail from the previous week.

Butler students had a diverse week. In addition to building trail in some very tough terrain, they helped clear six miles of trail blocked by tornado damage.

Nearly 3 miles of trail was built from Legget Road Trail Head north.  The trail descended almost 400 feet into a gorge requiring the movement of hundreds of rocks and six switchbacks.
