We will need sawyers and folks who can carry loppers and trimmers (Swampers). Scope of work will be to clear all downed trees on the trail and to trim back all growth such as briars and Virginia creeper encroaching the trail.
A light breakfast before and a good lunch afterwards for all who attend will be provided😉

Never built trail before? Not sure what this is all about ? No problem. You will be assigned to a crew led by a Wagon Master (crew leader) and learn along with the students. Tools and meals provided too. Work days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Sunday after dinner is the orientation, introductions and safety demonstration.
Call the CTC Office and let them know what day – or days – you expect to be there. They will provide directions and information on accommodations.

Saturday May 11 Intro to Trail Building –
CTC continues to offer no cost classes on trail building. This time CTC joins with the Fairfield Glade Trail Builders for this hands on introduction to the fundamentals of building sustainable trails. You will learn from Certified Master Trail Builders. This six hour class covers everything from corridor preparation to final grooming. Safety and proper tool handling are emphasized. Students will understand how water flow effects trail design and construction.
Students will learn how to cut a proper back slope, trail tread and create a critical edge on the out slope. Basic techniques such as shoulder armoring and creek step overs are covered as well.

Class size is limited. Directions and details will follow registration. Students must be healthy enough to handle trail construction work and carry tools. Students must bring sturdy shoes, water, bug spray, a hat, bandanna and gloves. Bring a bag lunch and snacks for lunch on the trail. This is a wilderness experience, so not port-o-potties.
