Learn the Basics of Building Sustainable Trail with the CTC
CTC continues to offer no cost classes on trail building. This class will be taught on a trail that will become a connector to the Soddy Creek Gorge Segment of the Cumberland Trail from Big Soddy Gulf Park.
Classes are taught by Certified Master Trail Builders. This six hour Introduction to Sustainable Trail Building class covers everything from corridor preparation to final grooming. Safety and proper tool handling are emphasized. Students will understand how water flow and hiking traffic effects trail design and construction.
Students learn how to cut a proper back slope, trail tread and create a critical edge on the out slope. Basic techniques such as shoulder armoring, grade reversals and creek step overs are covered as well.
There is no charge for the class, but registration is required.
