The 15th annual Alternative Spring Break program spanned four weeks in March. Over 130 students representing 12 universities traveled from 9 states to help build trail.
Students and numerous CTC volunteers donated 5502 volunteer hours and completed an additional 4 miles of continuous trail between Caine and Copper Creeks in the North Chickamauga segment. This brought the total in the North Chickamauga Gorge segment to 8 miles of trail open for foot traffic.
In addition, students performed two miles of trail maintenance between the Montlake Road trail head and the Bluff staircase. In addition to constructing new trail, existing trail in North Chickamauga and Little Soddy Gorge was maintained. This trail maintenance included repairing sections of eroded trail, correcting water run-off issues, correcting areas of trail slough and widening trail tread to 30 inches, removing fallen trees, installing trail signage, and re-blazing the trail.
Florida State students work in the rain to fix a stream wash-out along the trail.
