TSOF is an annual event held in Cumberland Gap, TN, home of the northern terminus for the Cumberland Trail that will eventually tie together Cumberland Gap and Chattanooga. TSOF was originally created to help put focus on the Cumberland Trail and the importance of it to the area but it has quickly grown to include all facets of outdoor recreation that are available in and around the Cumberland Gap region. The Cumberland Trails Conference, known as the "builders of the Cumberland Trail", came in as a natural fit for this event and plan on attending again this year to promote to the public all of the opportunities that are available to help with both the trail and the CTC itself. Coming together to create the Cumberland Challenge helps to achieve goals created by both organizations - to get people outside and moving, and specifically to promote this movement occurring on the Cumberland Trail

Our Trail Crew has literally been between a “roc Our Trail Crew has literally been between a “rock and a hard place”. There have been no easy outs on the section of trail they’ve been building. Pictured are rock pavers strategically placed on a steep and rock littered slope. A very remote area which means no access for side by sides or machinery to do this work for them. Trail users will sincerely appreciate the hand built path as they traverse across the otherwise impassable backcountry

More beautifully placed stone steps and pavers don More beautifully placed stone steps and pavers done by our talented and hard working trail crew. This is all being done in very remote areas where our crew has to 4x4 in and then walk a very long way to the worksite each day. There is no access for a side by side or machinery to do this work for them. 💪 We think hikers will appreciate this detailed hand work as they navigate these trails in the near future.

Yesterday alongside @responsiblestewardship & @tva Yesterday alongside @responsiblestewardship & @tva we celebrated the 90th birthday of Tennessee Valley Authority by cleaning up a 1 mile section at Shut In Gap Rd in Spring City.

Here are the numbers:

• 35 volunteers
• 105 vol. hours
• 41 tires removed
• 4 mattresses
• 1 couch
• 4,066 lbs of litter removed!!

TOGETHER we were able to make our outdoor spaces a better place to recreate and the Spring City area a better place to live.

HUGE thanks to @normanmccowan and @thearrowheadresort for providing lunch for all volunteers! Thanks to Rhea County for providing the dumpster for this cleanup.
